Week 1

This week began with the launch of our Final Major Project, with an initial assembly on Monday outlining the process and reminding us of the things we need to highlight in order to do as well as possible. However, before the launch, we were told to consider the project we wanted to create.

I have until the fourth of June to create a complete visual piece, as well as an entire website and evaluation. As I have stated in other pages, I am creating a surreal, experimental short film about a woman’s escapist fantasy of being a rural housewife. Her fanciful projecting goes askew, however, after interference from supernatural forces, which has hazardous consequences. I want to focus heavily on aesthetics and pretty film-making with this film, as well as quality of writing – the woman speaks as if she were in an Enid Blyton novel, so I will have to try hard to make it seem authentic.

This year we were given no theme, freeing us all up further. I knew for a while what I wanted to do; which I have outlined in the Context and Project Proposal page on this website. The writing of said page has encompassed most of my time this week.

In terms of structuring my project over the ten weeks we are given, I have decided to stick to what was recommended to us during the launch assembly:

This week I have been focusing on the launch, but the proposal will be polished by next week. As well as the proposal page, I will complete the proposal document as soon as possible, attaching it to the website.

As well as this, I have discussed my idea in detail with my visual teachers (due to its nature as a short film), and written a rough script so that they may give me feedback. This is essential to getting a final product which is as high-quality as possible. I know that the process should also be valued over the product, but knowing my film will be good gives me peace of mind. To have a good process, I know that being punctual is key, so I will aim to get every blog post done on time, rather than writing in retrospect.

I know that I need to film in a specific location (I wrote the script with the location in mind). I have already secured a shooting date and booked time off work as early as possible. My next step is to begin hiring the right equipment to make my shoot go smoothly, as well as filling in location recce forms.
